Living for beauty is all very fine, but it’s a hard regimen and burns up the heart very quickly.

About This Quote

If we live for beauty we will die as shadows. The way to live is to live as an artist. An artist lives for beauty and not for the glory of the world. The world is full of suffering and suffering is part of our existence.

We can never escape suffering and suffering comes from the eyes of those who do wrong to those who are innocent and pure. This suffering is a part of life and we must accept it and be grateful for it because it keeps us alive. Being an artist means that we accept suffering as part of our existence and we do not pursue comfort or happiness for long, but instead we chase beauty and truth, which never end.
